🏥 Behavioral & Safety Training for Veterinary Teams

Customized training to support safer, smoother veterinary visits.

Compass Collars offers professional behavioral and safety training tailored specifically for veterinary offices and clinics. We understand the challenges veterinary teams face when handling fearful, reactive, aggressive animals, or service animals — and we’re here to help improve safety, reduce stress, and enhance client trust.

Our program includes:

  • Pre-training observation the day before to assess patient behavior, team handling techniques, and clinic flow
  • Hands-on staff training in real-time situations using practical, low-stress handling methods
  • Video-based education for ongoing team development and reinforcement
  • Custom strategies to improve safety, efficiency, and patient experience

We focus on practical behavioral insight and evidence-based methods to reduce risk and increase confidence in handling dogs with behavioral concerns, both in routine visits and more complex cases.

⚠️ Terms and Conditions

Compass Collars provides canine behavior consulting, safety guidance, and educational services for private clients and veterinary professionals. While our work is informed by industry standards, professional experience, and collaboration with veterinary teams, Compass Collars is not a licensed veterinary practice. We do not diagnose medical conditions, prescribe medications, perform medical procedures, or provide veterinary medical advice of any kind. All medical concerns, diagnoses, treatments, medications, and health-related decisions must be directed to and managed by a licensed veterinarian.
Behavioral outcomes vary by dog and are influenced by numerous factors, including but not limited to genetics, medical history, environment, prior learning, handling, and client compliance. No guarantees are made regarding specific results, timelines, or outcomes. Behavioral modification is not linear and may involve trial-and-error to determine what methods and management strategies are most effective for each individual dog.
Compass Collars’ services, whether conducted virtually or in person, require active participation, honest communication, and consistent follow-through by the client. Failure to implement recommendations, provide accurate information, or maintain safety protocols may limit or negate progress. Clients are solely responsible for the handling, management, and supervision of their dogs at all times.
Virtual consultations are limited by the inability to physically assess the dog and environment. By participating in virtual services, clients acknowledge and accept these limitations and assume full responsibility for safety during implementation.
Media, Recording, and Communications
By engaging with Compass Collars, clients acknowledge and consent that all forms of communication and interaction may be documented or recorded, including but not limited to emails, text messages, phone calls, virtual sessions, in-person sessions, consultations, assessments, and follow-up communications. These records may be maintained for purposes including, but not limited to, documentation, quality assurance, safety review, training, legal protection, and continuity of care.
Any audio, video, photographic, or written materials created during the course of services remain the property of Compass Collars unless otherwise agreed upon in writing. Recordings will be handled in accordance with applicable privacy laws and used in a professional and secure manner.
Compass Collars may, when appropriate, assist in identifying third-party services such as board-and-train facilities or participate in evaluating potential future owners in rehoming situations. Compass Collars does not own, operate, control, or assume liability for any third-party facilities, professionals, or individuals, and makes no warranties regarding their services, outcomes, or conduct.
Clients remain fully responsible for all veterinary care, medical costs, injuries, damages, and liabilities involving their dog before, during, and after services with Compass Collars. By engaging in services, clients acknowledge the inherent risks associated with working with animals and agree to assume all associated responsibility.

Frequently Asked Questions

What training methods do you use?

We use positive reinforcement techniques and tools to train dogs and focus on building a strong bond between the owner and pet.

Is behavioral euthanasia an option?

Behavioral euthanasia is one of the most heartbreaking topics in the world of animal care, and it’s never a decision made lightly. In rare and extreme cases, such as when a dog presents a significant and ongoing risk to people, other animals, or themselves, and all training, behavioral modification, and management efforts have been exhausted, it may be considered as a last resort.
It’s important to understand that this is not about giving up on a dog, but about recognizing when an animal is suffering, trapped in fear, anxiety, or aggression that they can't escape from. In these cases, behavioral euthanasia can be a humane and responsible choice.
We want to be very clear: We do not perform euthanasia. If this path is being considered, it should only be carried out by a licensed veterinarian, who can help assess whether it’s the most appropriate and compassionate option or to determine any medical factors.
There is no shame in asking these questions or needing support in this kind of situation. If you’re facing something this serious, you’re not alone. We are here to help guide you through the behavioral side of things while you consult with your veterinary team about medical decisions.

Do you offer group classes or private sessions?

We offer both group classes and private sessions to accommodate different training preferences and the specific needs of each dog. However, private party group sessions are not common.

How long does it take to see results?

Results vary significantly depending on the individual dog, the nature and duration of the behavior concern, environmental factors, and, most critically, the consistency and follow-through of the client(s), including others in the home. Some clients may observe initial improvements within the first few sessions, while other cases require extended timelines and ongoing adjustment. Behavioral work is not linear and often involves trial and error to identify the most effective methods, management strategies, and communication approaches for each dog. Without consistent implementation, reinforcement, and clear feedback regarding what is and is not working, meaningful and lasting results should not be expected immediately.

In certain cases, a dog’s needs may exceed what can be safely or effectively addressed through in-home or virtual services alone and may require referral to a board-and-train or specialized facility. While Compass Collars does not offer board-and-train services directly, we will assist in identifying and vetting an appropriate facility when necessary. In rare situations where rehoming is determined to be the most responsible outcome, we will participate in evaluating potential future owners to support a safe, ethical, and structured transition for the dog.

Pricing

Our pricing varies depending on the individual case, location, and whether we're working with a private client or a professional party. Because every situation is different, we prefer to first offer a free phone consultation to better understand your needs and provide an accurate quote.

Please note that all services require full payment up front and are non-refundable. Travel distance, complexity of the case, and urgency will affect pricing. Most consultations. whether by phone or in-person, are scheduled within a 14-day window, depending on your location.

If an emergency consultation is needed sooner than the standard 14-day window, there will be an additional expedited service fee. We’re happy to discuss those details during your free phone consultation so we can give you a clear breakdown tailored to your needs.

How many veterinary staff members can be present during training?

There is no set limit to how many veterinary staff members can be present during training sessions. However, the more individuals involved, the more time may be needed to ensure everyone receives clear instruction and has the opportunity to ask questions or participate. We’re happy to accommodate your team’s needs with proper planning.

How long does each session take?

Private sessions:

Depending on the reasoning behind each session, we usually spend 30-120 minutes.

Professional sessions:

Our smallest in-house package is four hours. Our largest in-house package is 8 hours. This does include lunch and breaks.

Requirements for private sessions

All vaccinations that are required must be administered by a licensed veterinarian. All dogs must be current on Rabies, Bordetella, DHLPP, and Canine Influenza, with verifiable proof provided prior to the commencement of any services. These two vaccinations are mandatory to ensure the safety of the dog, the client, and Compass Collars staff during training and behavioral consultations.

Bordetella vaccination is specifically required as many sessions may include in-store or public-environment assessments, where exposure risk is increased. Compass Collars reserves the right to postpone or deny services if vaccination requirements are not met or documentation is not provided.

Do you offer board and train?

No, given that our services focus primarily on behavior modification and safety, we do not offer puppy obedience training nor any form of board-and-train services. Due to geographic considerations, most private clients will typically receive services through virtual consultations; however, this may vary based on timing, location, and case-specific needs. In contrast, all services provided to veterinary professionals are conducted exclusively in person. When in-person services are offered, we travel directly to the client’s location to ensure appropriate assessment, handling, and safety within the environment where concerns occur.

While we do not provide services for dogs under six months of age, Compass Collars will be launching a free educational podcast in 2026. This podcast will cover foundational topics including puppy training, selecting ethical breeders with a strong emphasis on behavioral soundness, and identifying dogs that best align with individual lifestyles and needs. Content will be behavior- and safety-focused across all areas, including training principles, veterinary-based handling within hospital settings, and private-party applications. This podcast is intended as an educational resource only and does not replace individualized training or behavioral consultations.
