Credentials & Professional Scope

Are you a veterinarian?

No. I am not a veterinarian and do not diagnose, prescribe, establish treatment plans, or provide independent medical advice. My background includes more than a decade of experience in veterinary medicine, animal behavior, client education, clinic operations, and veterinary support roles. My services are educational, operational, behavioral, creative, or supportive in nature. Medical decisions and patient-specific medical guidance must come from a licensed veterinarian.

What services can you provide without a veterinary license?

I provide non-medical support related to animal behavior, patient handling, staff safety and education, clinic workflow, client communication, veterinary relief support, photography, educational resources, social media, and marketing. When working in a veterinary setting, I follow the hospital’s protocols and the direction of its licensed veterinarian. I do not diagnose medical conditions, prescribe medication, or establish medical treatment plans.

Is Compass Collars & Co. a veterinary practice?

No. Compass Collars & Co. is an independent support and consulting business, not a veterinary practice. Services are educational, behavioral, operational, creative, or supportive in nature and are not a substitute for care from a licensed veterinarian. If your animal is experiencing a medical concern or emergency, please contact your regular veterinarian or the nearest emergency veterinary hospital.

Services & Working Together

Who do you work with?

I work with veterinary practices, veterinary professionals, pet owners, and animal-related businesses nationwide. Services are customized according to the client’s needs and may be provided virtually, remotely, or onsite when scheduling and location allow.

Can I request more than one service?

Yes. Services may be combined when a project involves more than one area of support. For example, a veterinary practice may need staff education, customized client materials, photography, and social media support as part of the same project. Combined services are customized according to the client’s goals, timeline, and budget. Package discounts and other benefits may be available for qualifying bundled or ongoing services.

How are services and pricing determined?

After discussing your needs, you will receive a written service and pricing package that clearly outlines the recommended scope of work, included services, deliverables, pricing, and applicable terms. Before an agreement is finalized, the package may be adjusted by adding or removing services and deliverables to better fit your goals, priorities, and budget. Any changes may affect the final price.

What happens after I submit an inquiry?

I will review the information you provide and respond by email with any necessary follow-up questions. Once I understand the requested services, goals, timeline, and location, I can prepare a detailed service and pricing package for your review. Submitting an inquiry does not create an agreement or require you to purchase services.

Nationwide & Onsite Services

What does nationwide service mean?

Compass Collars & Co. is a mobile business that travels throughout the United States. Virtual and remote services may be available nationwide, while onsite services depend on location, project requirements, travel routes, and scheduling availability. Nationwide service does not mean that immediate onsite availability is guaranteed in every location.

Are travel expenses included in the service price?

Travel-related expenses are calculated separately unless the written service package states otherwise. All anticipated travel expenses will be clearly outlined for review before an agreement is finalized.

How far in advance should onsite services be requested?

Onsite services should be requested as early as possible because availability depends on current projects, travel routes, location, and the amount of preparation required. Larger consulting, staff education, photography, or multi-day projects generally require more advance notice. Requested dates are not reserved until the required agreement and deposit have been completed.

Veterinary Support Staff Relief

Are you hired as an employee or an independent contractor?

Veterinary relief services are provided through Compass Collars & Co., LLC as an independent 1099 contractor. Payment is made directly to the LLC rather than to me as an individual.

What types of veterinary relief support do you provide?

Relief support may include general practice assistance, urgent or emergency care support, surgical preparation and monitoring support, inpatient care, laboratory and pharmacy tasks, client communication, administrative assistance, workflow support, and animal handling. Specific duties depend on the hospital’s needs, protocols, state requirements, and the direction of the attending veterinarian. I do not perform duties that legally require a licensed veterinarian.

What length of relief assignments do you accept?

Relief assignments generally require a minimum commitment covering one full business week, based on the hospital’s regular operating schedule, such as Monday through Friday or Monday through Saturday. Coverage may be provided for maternity leave, medical leave, vacations, continuing education, and other defined temporary absences.

Fixed-term coverage for a vacant position, including a management role, may also be considered with an initial contract of four to six weeks. Before that term ends, the hospital must either arrange permanent coverage or request an additional four-to-six-week contract. Extensions require mutual written agreement and are not guaranteed.

Occasional single-shift or short-notice coverage may be considered if I am already in the area, but availability is limited. Every assignment must have a clearly defined scope, schedule, and contract period.

Who oversees veterinary relief duties?

All patient-specific medical decisions, treatment plans, prescriptions, and medical instructions remain under the authority of the hospital’s licensed veterinarian. I perform only the duties permitted by applicable state requirements, the hospital’s protocols, my training and experience, and the direction provided by the attending veterinarian. The hospital is responsible for ensuring appropriate veterinary supervision throughout the assignment.
